D A Calf

Research Associate

D A Calf is a sound and installation artist, field recordist and PhD candidate interested in archives of place – impossible, hidden, contested, and otherwise – and the status of fieldwork. Calf’s cross-disciplinary research incorporates memory and time studies, geology, linguistics, anthropology, ethnography and sound studies, the findings of which find form through processes of serialisation, cartography, expanded drawing, sculpture, sonic composition, video and publication. He has exhibited gallery and performance-based works in the US, UK, France, Austria, Serbia, Brazil, and Australia, and presented research at conferences in Russia, Brazil, Croatia, Serbia, the UK, and Australia. Recent publications have discussed the relationship of fieldwork to landscape, the act of writing the field recording, and archival practice.
